Zero Gravity

'Zero Gravity' is a tentative of portraying myself lost in time and space, at the border between reality and virtual. The artworks aim to express the disorientation the world, including myself, may face in a near future. The aesthetic is inspired by Hellenistic sculptures period as well as urban and modern 3D digital fashion.

There is a particular attention to depict extremes and emotions but also anatomical realism. The emptiness of the space and the unbalanced poses reinforce the feeling of uncertainty. The use of spotlights and the high contrast in the colors visually strengthens the notion of ambivalence. The sharp lighting helps to direct the viewer's eyes and let him better focus on the details.

I have picked the Hellenistic sculptures as a reference because I found the core philosophy behind this movement fitting very well with what people are looking to achieve through modern 3D rendering. 'Hellenistic sculpture takes up the innovations of the second classicism: perfect sculpture in the round, allowing the statue to be admired from all angles; study of drapes and effects of transparency of clothing; attitude flexibility. The imitation of nature and man goes as far as the illusion of real movement: it is a question of representing man in all his details (beard, muscles, bones, facial features, drapes...) to get as close as possible to reality, giving life to the statue. Sculptors seek to free themselves from architectural constraints, from the law of gravity: they prefer contrasts rather than the harmony found in the classical period.'
